Feb. 12, 2012 meeting minutes
To all:
A meeting for Gallery organization was held last
week, with good attendance. The following items were reported on and
discussed. I will note things that are requiring action:
- Scheduling Exhibits: Jerry has offered to assist me in setting the exhibition schedule. Currently we have "annual" shows set but are needing ideas and suggestions for other exhibits for 2012. Please contact Jerry or me with your ideas, or if you want to do a one or two person exhibit. Paula and Isabelle will have a show in the fall.
- Sitters: I have asked Paula and Scott to meet with potential sitters to lay out the schedule for opening on Feb 1. Current group show will be up during February. Anyone that can sit, or if you have a group that would like to assist us in keeping open, please let us know. This is very important.
- Chamber of Commerce Photo Competition and Exhibit. We received a request from the Chamber to get involved in their annual calendar photo competition. Ken Frishckonrn has volunteered to be a "liaison" with the chamber to assist with this. He and I will get with new Chamber management and see what we can do, and will report back to all.
- Receptions: Isabelle will be coordinating our receptions for exhibits. Exhibitors will be responsible for funding their receptions, with the assistance of the group as needed. We encourage all shows to pursue "sponsorship" for their shows. This has worked in the past.
- Education: We want to sponsor an Art Camp in the summer. Amanda Roe will be working with Shirley Smith and the Arts Council to see if we can swing this.
- Competition Show: We will ask Shirley to again be the lead on the competition show. This has become a very big deal, receiving entries from across the country and funding almost a year of our expenses. This year, the judge will Be Larry Leach. Larry is from Hornbeck, taught at NSU and is currently living and painting in Florida. We will be asking Larry to consider doing some painting clinics this year also. Visit his website to see his work and his approach to painting.
- Dues: We had a lot of discussion on dues. It was decided that the dues will be 100.00 per year for everyone, due in February. Anyone wanting to join after July will be accessed $50.00. This will be easier to track with everyone coming due at the same time. Artist Members receive, for their dues, participation in all group exhibits and a page on our website for displaying their works. We also expect all artists and other members to assist with gallery events, cleanup, sitting, fundraising, etc.
- Artwalk. There was a lot of discussion of the upcoming Artwalks. The history of this event is:
The City contacted a group of artists
4 years ago to help stage this event. The Gallery artists and
volunteers took the event and ran with it. With the assistance of
the Tourism Commission is grew to a twice a year event (spring and
fall). In fact, it has grown to a size that is getting difficult for
our small group to manage. Paula, Bob, Angela and a few volunteers
and I have been at the lead in getting participants, setting up and
striking the displays, with the assistance of Mike Reese at American
Moving and Storage, where the pegboards are stored. The Spring
artwalk had a "student art" theme with student work in the gallery
and the LJHS jazz band playing.
This year there is a conflict with
the Fall Artwalk, being the same day as the Soapbox derby. We will
be discussing this with the city to resolve the conflicts. I am
confident that it will be worked out to every one's satisfaction.
Sam with Main Street has asked us to
consider moving the Fall Artwalk in 2013 to November, so he can use
state funding to assist with the event. Everyone liked that idea.
Please respond with comments and suggestions, and
let's have a great 2012 at GALLERY ONE EIIIEVEN
